Euskotren puts out to tender the purchase of five trains for €53.7 million
The Procurement Authority of Euskotren, the publicly-owned company answering to the Basque Government's Ministry of Territorial Planning, Housing and Transport, has authorised the start of the procurement procedure for a new series of S-980 trains, for the sum of €53,750,000.
The S-980 – to be used by Euskotren to operate Line 5 of the Bilbao subway – will initially consist of five electric multiple units (EMUs) with four cars in Motor-Motor-Trailer-Motor (MNTM) composition, with a rated capacity to transport 400 people. Furthermore, the units will include a disabled toilet.
The new units will come with the cutting-edge technological innovations of the rail sector in terms of technology, reliability, sustainability, safety and ergonomics.
The doors will have built-in ramps for people with reduce mobility. There will be acoustic warnings for the blind and light signals for the hearing impaired.
Furthermore, the new units will be sustainable and will comply with all environmental standards, and those regarding the life cycles of each and every one of the materials.
Euskoten currently provides rail, subway, tramway, funicular and bus services to transport its passengers.
