The Euskotren Basque Railway Museum to run classic diesel and steam trains in August

The Basque Railway Museum run by Euskotren, a publicly-owned company of the Basque Government, will put on more classic train journeys in August. There will continue to be the three usual departures of its steam trains at weekends, while journeys on the diesel locomotives will be added on weekdays, from Tuesday to Friday. The diesel trains will depart at 12.00 noon and 5.30 p.m., and will cover the 4.5 kilometres between the museum premises and Lasao station. 

The museum’s offering for its regular season – with three steam engine departures every weekend until November – will thus be bolstered by these nine diesel departures. The next services are:

• 1 August: 12.00 noon / 5.30 p.m.
• 2 August: 12.00 noon

The opening hours of the Basque Railway Museum are: 

• Tuesday to Saturday: from 10:30 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. and from 4.00 to 7.30 p.m.
• Sundays and bank holidays (except Mondays): 10:30 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.

The Basque Railway Museum boasts one of the best railway collections in Europe featuring a whole range of vehicles: electric, diesel and steam locomotives, railcars and different types of carriages. It also has one of the Basque Country’s most comprehensive sets of machine tools from the former Urola railway repair shop. There is also a display of railway uniforms from the end of the 19th century and one of the best railway clock collections in the world.
